Davenport Wins First G-MAC Player of the Week Honor

Charger men's golf freshman Josh Davenport has been playing his best golf of the season in recent weeks. Wednesday morning, he was recognized for his strong play.

Davenport was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office. Davenport is the 30th different Hillsdale College athlete to win a conference player of the week honor during the 2018-19 academic year, and his award is the 39th overall awarded to a Charger.

This week, Davenport placed third overall at the Greyhound Invitational, held at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana. He shot a 213 overall, highlighted by a second-round score of 67 Monday. He followed that up with a 69 on Tuesday, pushing him into the top three and helping Hillsdale rise from 15th as a team after the first round, to a final finish of eighth after three rounds.

Four of Davenport's last seven rounds have seen him shoot in the 60s, with a low round of 66 in the opening round of the Music City Invitational in Nashville. That score was the best single round registered by any Charger golfer since the program was reinstituted in the 2014-15 school year and is tied for the fourth-best in the G-MAC this year. He currently ranks sixth overall in the G-MAC with a season scoring average of 73.2.
