Liam Purslowe's first-round 73 helped pace the Hillsdale College golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Motor City Invite, held Monday and Tuesday at the TPC of Michigan in Dearborn. Wayne State University acted as the event host.
The Chargers finished with a two-round team score of 637, shooting 317 Monday and 320 Tuesday. Part of Monday's round needed to be pushed to Tuesday due to lingering frost conditions on the course.
Purslowe's Monday 73 was the best score recorded by the team in a single round. He finished the tournament with a 152, good for seventh overall at the 19-team event.
Ryan Zetwick took second on the team with an 80-81--161, one shot ahead of freshman teammate Logan Anuszkiewicz, who had a 79-83--162. Andrew Grayson also fired a 162, bouncing back strong from an opening-round 85 to card a 77 Tuesday.
Ben Meola was fifth on the team with a 174, shooting 87s both days.
The University of Findlay won the event with a team score of 610, two strokes better than runner-up Bellarmine.
