Chargers Suffer 1st Loss of Season at Lewis

Chargers Suffer 1st Loss of Season at Lewis

A long first-half scoring drought ended up being fatal for the Hillsdale College men's basketball team Tuesday night.

After getting off to a good start, the Chargers were plagued by turnovers, going nearly six minutes without a point in the first half of a 78-68 loss to Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. The loss was the first of the season for the 3-1 Chargers.

Junior guard Stedman Lowry picked up where he left off, making his first four shots of the game, three of them from behind the 3-point stripe, to help spring Hillsdale to an early 14-8 lead. With a little more than 10 minutes to go in the first half, the Chargers led 25-19. But that scoring drought hit, during which Hillsdale would turn the ball over eight times, including on six straight possessions, allowing Lewis to take the lead.

Hillsdale turned the ball over 17 times in the game, resulting in 21 Lewis points. The Flyers outscored the Chargers 21-13 on points off turnovers, while also doubling up Hillsdale in points from non-starters (26-13). Those stats helped negate a 30-27 edge the Chargers had on the boards.

Lowry led the Chargers with 20 points in the game, while sophomore guard Nate Neveau scored 14 points and had 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Senior center Nick Archer added 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, while redshirt-freshman Dylan Lowry came off the bench to score 11 points, most of them in the second half.
