Dezelski Named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week

For the third time in his career, and the first time this season, Tim Dezelski was named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. The award was chosen and announced by the conference office early Monday afternoon.

Dezelski had a big stretch of games for the Charger basketball team from Dec. 14-22. On Sunday he was named MVP of the 2013 Quincy University Subway Holiday Classic, leading Hillsdale to the tournament championship.

In the two wins over Truman and Quincy last weekend, he totaled 50 points, 17 rebounds and 9 assists. In Saturday's win, he scored his 1,000th career point, coming on a 3-point play early in the second half. Against GLIAC North Division-leading Michigan Tech Dec. 14, Dezelski scored a career-high 35 points, the most points scored in a game by a Charger men's basketball player since Feb. 2, 2008.

In the past four games, Dezelski averaged 27.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Hillsdale has won three straight to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Over the season's first eight games, Dezelski has scored exactly 200 points, averaging 25.0 points per game, good for second in the conference. He is the first Hillsdale College men's basketball player in more than 15 years to score 200 points over any eight-game span in a season. He's also third in the GLIAC with 8.6 rebounds per game, and his 60.8 percent shooting from the field ranks him seventh in the conference.
