6 Charger Football Players Earn All-Region Honors

D2CCA All-Super Region 1 Team

The Charger football team got a little greedy when it came to postseason awards. But it's fine, that's what happens when great season happens.

Six Chargers earned First or Second-Team All-Region honors by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association. The full release came out Friday morning and can be accessed through the link at the top of this story.

Only Notre Dame College had as many all-region players as Hillsdale this year.

Offensive lineman Drew Callahan, quarterback Chance Stewart and wide receiver Trey Brock were all named First-Team All-Region. Safety Wyatt Batdorff, defensive end Zach VanValkenburg and placekicker Joe Philipp each picked up Second-Team All-Region honors. Callahan, Stewart and Brock are now eligible for All-American honors.

The D2CCA nomination and voting are conducted by sports information directors at Division II football institutions throughout Super Region 1. SIDs from around the country will vote on the All-American team, scheduled for release Wednesday, December 12.

Callahan was the G-MAC Offensive Lineman of the Year and was terrific as the Chargers' starting center. His blocking and line calls were instrumental in Hillsdale leading the conference in third-down conversion rate during the season, and he wrapped up a four-year career that also saw him play as a starting guard for the team.

Stewart was the G-MAC Player of the Year and is one of nine finalists nationwide for the Harlon Hill Trophy, emblematic of Division II's best player. His 3,588 passing yards this season were a school and conference record, and currently ranks third in all of NCAA Division II.

Brock shattered receiving records in a season and a career in 2018. He caught 79 passes for 1,422 yards and 17 touchdowns and was impossible for most defenses to hold under 100 yards in a competitive game. He holds Hillsdale's career records for receptions (256), receiving yards (4,401) and receiving touchdowns (40).
