The Series
Hillsdale holds a 17-8 all-time series edge versus Michigan Tech. The Chargers won the first 11 straight meetings with MTU, a span that stretched from 1980-97. In those games, Michigan Tech scored an average of just 8 points per game. However, since a meeting on Sept. 19, 1998, the Huskies have won eight of 14 matchups, including the last two in a row. These teams haven't met since Michigan Tech came to Hillsdale on Nov. 9, 2013 and posted a 30-27 overtime victory.

Extra Points

  • This is the third home game in four weeks to open the season for the Chargers. Hillsdale also closes the season with three out of four at home, but between Sept. 25 and Nov. 4, Hillsdale will play at home just once.
  • In 2015, the Chargers ended a four-year homecoming game losing streak in a 38-24 win over Tiffin.
  • The Chargers' last win over Michigan Tech came on Oct. 15, 2011 in a 13-7 slugfest in Houghton. Hillsdale's last home win over the Huskies came on Oct. 16, 2010.
  • Sophomore Trey Brock is the GLIAC's current leader in average receiving yards per game. His average of 121.3 is seven more than any other player in the conference. He has two 100-yard receiving games in the season's first three weeks.
  • Although Hillsdale will leave the GLIAC at the end of this season, these two teams are scheduled to meet in a non-conference game in 2017.
  • The head coaches in this game, Hillsdale's Keith Otterbein and Michigan Tech's Tom Kearly, served together as grad assistants at Central Michigan University under Hall of Fame coach Herb Deromedi.
  • Michigan Tech currently leads the GLIAC with five interceptions by its defense in the first three weeks of the season. Hillsdale has not thrown an interceptions thus far in the season.
  • Keith Otterbein is the dean of GLIAC head football coaches. He's entering his 15th season coaching the Chargers (his alma mater), the longest tenure of any coach with his current program. Otterbein also coached at Ferris State from 1986-94, making 2016 his 24th season coaching in the GLIAC.
