Steven Mette Named GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week!

GLIAC Weekly Awards Release

A team win as impressive as what Hillsdale College's football team had Saturday night brought an individual award to one of its most reliable players.

Senior placekicker Steven Mette was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week. The award was announced Monday morning by the conference office.

Mette was perfect in his season debut for the Chargers, going 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and 3-for-3 on extra point attempts in the team's 30-24 win over 16th-ranked University of Indianapolis. Mette's two first-half field goals got the scoring started, and he booted a key insurance field goal in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

His field goals measured 32, 20 and 28 yards.

Mette is in his fourth season as the starting placekicker and his second as the starting punter. He has accumulated 215 points in his three-plus year career, and has been named to the GLIAC Academic Excellence Team.

Mette and the Chargers will seek a 2-0 start at home this weekend when they host Walsh University at 7 p.m.
