Embry Nets Another Academic Honor

2013 Football Capital One Academic All-District Release

Hillsdale College senior linebacker Steven Embry is having a senior season on the field on par with the impressive résumé he's built for himself away from the field in an impressive four years at the college. Thursday afternoon, he was rewarded for his work.

Embry, a native of Clinton, Mich., was named to the Captial One Academic All-District First Team, an honor that rewards players for their acomplishments on the field, in the classroom and in their communities. This is the first time Embry has won this award.

The All-District team encompasses players from all teams in the NCAA Division II Region IV, which extends from the GLIAC footprint of the Great Lakes region, all the way to New Mexico.

A three-year starter for the Chargers, Embry is turning in his finest season in 2013. He leads the team with four interceptions this year, and returned one for a touchdown earlier in the season. He ranks third on the team with 63 total tackles, and has 3.5 tackles for loss on the season. He also leads the team with three forced fumbles this year.

Earlier this fall, Embry was a national semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Award and is a nominee for the American Football Coaches Association AllSatte Good Works Team. He leads the Charger football team's weekly Bible study group, and has volutneered at Habitat for Humanity, Hot Rock, a mission-based basketball camp in Adrian, Michigan, and at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.

Embry is majoring in biology and is a member of the Tri Beta biology honorary.
