Chargers drop final game of series to Missouri S&T, 14-4

The Hillsdale College baseball team couldn't build off a solid first inning in the final game of a weekend series at Missouri S&T on Monday, falling 14-4 to the Miners.

Will Shannon opened the scoring in the game with a RBI double to score Danny Passinault for the Chargers in the top of the first inning to give Hillsdale an early lead, but the Miners countered with six runs in the bottom of the second inning and two more in the bottom of the third to pull away.

Joe Hardenbergh followed up a Will Shannon single in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run to bring Hillsdale closer, but a three-run bottom of the fourth for Missouri S&T put them up 11-3 and Hillsdale never really got back in the game after that.

Zak Kent added a home run for the Chargers in the bottom of the sixth as Hillsdale finished with just four hits in the contest.

Devin Murray took the loss for the Chargers in his first start of the season, striking out three in two innings, and Daly Skees, Logan Simon, Drew Erdei, Brandon Scott and Patrick MacLean also pitched in relief for the Chargers.

Hillsdale is now 5-8 on the season, and heads into a week off to regroup before traveling to Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday, March 14 for a nine inning midweek contest.
