Baseball Drops Pair to KWC

Game 1 box score: Kentucky Wesleyan 8, Hillsdale 6

Game 2 box score: Kentucky Wesleyan 10, Hillsdale 6

Some timely offense wasn't quite enough for the Hillsdale College baseball team Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers lost both ends of a doubleheader to conference foe Kentucky Wesleyan, losing 8-6 and 10-6 in the first two of a four-game series in Owensboro. The losses drop Hillsdale to 3-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

In game one, KWC's Chase Andrews hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win it. The hit spoiled a game in which Hillsdale outhit the Panthers 12-9.

Jacob DePillo hit a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the ninth to give Hillsdale a 6-5 lead.

Senior Colin Boerst went 3-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored. Jake Hoover was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Senior Dylan Lottinville also had a productive day with two hits, a run scored and a run batted in.

Chris Ackerman provided a highlight in game two with a grand slam home run in the third inning of game two. He had a career-high 5 RBI in the second game, continuing his offensive surge this season.

After Ackerman's blast, Hillsdale led 6-3, but the Panthers came back to score three in the fourth and three in the sixth to retake the lead.

Boerst and Hoover had multi-hit games for the second game in a row while Dante Toppi added a triple and a run scored.
