Krick's Walk-Off Single Gives Hillsdale Series Win

Krick's Walk-Off Single Gives Hillsdale Series Win

Game 3 box score: Findlay 11, Hillsdale 6

Game 4 box score: Hillsdale 4, Findlay 3

Although the first weekend of Great Midwest Athletic Conference play spilled over into the week, the Hillsdale College baseball team was pleased with the result.

Sophomore James Krick's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Chargers a 4-3 win over the University of Findlay in the second game of their Monday doubleheader, played at Adrian College's Nicolay Field. The win gave Hillsdale a 3-1 series win over the Oilers in the season-opening series between the teams.

The Chargers are now 6-9 overall and 3-1 in G-MAC play.

Jake Hoover blasted a one-out double to deep center field in the bottom of the seventh in game two. Senior Steven Ring, as often happened to him in this series, was intentionally walked to set up a potential double play. Senior Colin Boerst drew a walk in the next at bat to load the bases, setting the table for Krick's single through a drawn-in infield, on the right side, to end the game in walk-off fashion.

Hoover, Ring and Boerst all had two hits in the victory and Ring drove in three of the four runs for Hillsdale in the win. Outfielder Jake Rhodes also had a nice day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Junior pitcher Kolton Rominski got the win in relief with a strong showing in three innings. He pounded the strike zone effectively (29 strikes, 12 balls) and allowed just three hits in those three innings with no walks allowed. Sophomore lefty Sawyer Allen went four innings in getting the start and did a nice job of working out of jams during his start.

Game one saw the Oilers score four times in both the fourth and eighth innings to pull out an 11-6 victory.

Jacob DePillo was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in to lead the Charger offense in the opener. Senior Christian Rodino had a triple and scored a run during a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
