Chris McDonald Earns GLIAC Commissioner's Award

2016 Spring GLIAC Commissioner's Award Release

The outstanding season turned in by the Hillsdale College baseball team has reaped some prestigious individual awards for Charger players.

Recently graduated senior Chris McDonald was named the winner of the GLIAC Commissioner's Award Thursday afternoon. A total of 12 conference athletes across all sports were recipients of this award for the spring season.

McDonald had a record-breaking campaign for Hillsdale in 2016, leading the Chargers to their best-ever season. As a pitcher, he had a 3-1 record with a school-record 11 saves. At the plate, he was a key part of the team's offense, which set the conference record for home runs (68) and set team school records in every relevant offensive category.

He belted 14 home runs, drove in 62 runs and had a .348 batting average. He finished his career as the school's all-time leader in RBI with 128, and was named Second-Team All-GLIAC, First-Team All-Region and honorable mention All-American.

In the classroom, McDonald maintained an overall grade point average well above 3.5, and was named to the GLIAC Academic Excellence Team three times.

He now plays professional baseball for the Eastside Diamond Hoppers, based in Utica, Michigan.
