2022-23 G-MAC Academic All-Conference Team
The Hillsdale College athletic department finished another strong campaign on the playing field in the 2022-23 school year with recognition on Thursday for the work their student-athletes put in off the court as well.
A total of 181 Hillsdale College athletes earned G-MAC Academic All-Conference honors for the past school year, just five off the record set by the program in 2021-22 and in keeping with large contingents of Chargers being recognized with this honor since Hillsdale joined the G-MAC in 2017-18. At least one athlete from every one of Hillsdale's 14 NCAA-sponsored varsity sports programs were represented on this year's list, and students working towards degrees in 20 of Hillsdale's 35 major programs, including 17 double majors. To earn G-MAC Academic All-Conference honors, a student athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and be an active member of an athletic team.
Nearly half of all Chargers student athletes met that mark in 2022-23, with 47.1% of Hillsdale's 384 student athletes receiving Academic All-Conference honors. The Chargers football team led the way in terms of raw numbers with 50 total honorees, while women's cross country (9 of 9, 100%) and men's basketball (12 of 16, 75%) were tops in terms of percentage of their teams receiving the honor. Volleyball (14 of 19, 73.6%) and men's tennis (7 of 10, 70%) also recorded high percentages of their athletes receiving Academic All-Conference honors.
All told, 12 of 14 of Hillsdale's athletic programs had 40% or more of their athletes receive Academic All-Conference honors, and 10 of the 14 had more than half of their roster earn the distinction.
Across the G-MAC, a record 2,823 athletes received Academic All-Conference honors in 2022-23, easily surpassing the previous record of 2,376 set the previous year in 2021-22.
