Coach Michael Carl, D.D.S., J.D.

 

Michael Carl has been the head coach of the Hillsdale College Shotgun te
am since the Fall of 2013. Carl has prior experience coaching the Mattawan High School Shooting Team. He has attended mental game and shooting technique clinics across the county, including from past USA Shooting Olympic coaches.
He is licensed to practice both dentistry and law in Michigan and focuses mainly in the sale and transition of medical and dental practices. A practicing dentist in Michigan for the last 31 years, he has counseled over 250 clients through the transition process. He obtained his D.D.S. from the University of Detroit in 1983, and his J.D. from Thomas J. Cooley law school in 1991.
He is a member of the Kalamazoo Valley District Dental Society, the Michigan Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and is a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. Also a member of the Michigan Bar Association, he maintains many contacts
in both industries through seminars and speaking engagements.
Michael lives in Kalamazoo and spends his free time launching 70 foot roll casts to rising trout and making spectacular wing shots from the hip.

Joined the Shotgun Team as a true freshman...Made significant improvements over the course of the season in all disciplines...Recorded a solid performance at the ACUI National Championship...Posted scores in both Sporting Clays and Five Stand
High School:
Shot competitively in the ATA for a number of years both before, and during high school...named to the ATA All-American Sub-Junior second team in 2011 and the first team in 2012...Graduated 9th in a class of 900...Was president of the German National Honor Society and a member of the National Honor Society...Avid golfer...Born July 13, 1996...Parents are Thomas and Carrie Boyer.

Performed well at the SCTP National Championships...contributed to the overall team score in all events...won the International Trap side event
2015/2016:
Contributed to the team’s overall score in 4 out of the 6 events at the ACUI Collegiate National Championship...earned a place on the NRA All-American team...Won the College division in International Trap at the USA National Championship over the summer
2012/2013:
Joined the Shotgun Team as a true freshman...Won the HOA combined trap event at the Midwest Invitational in St. Louis, MO...Placed 4th overall in the American Trap event at the ACUI National College Championships

Competed primarily in USA Shooting bunker trap events throughout high school...earned Varsity letters in rugby and fencing at Culver Academy...graduated with honors in Equine Science...A founding member of their shooting club and an assistant captain of the Lancers mounted drill team...Born January 06, 1994...Son of Lorraine.

 

 

Matthew Grunzweig/South Lyon, Michigan

Shot a 99 out of 100 at the Michigan Fall Team Shoot to lead the team in American trap.
2015/2016:
Joined the Shotgun Team as a true freshman...led the team in Sporting Clays at the Fall SCTP Collegiate National Championship...Showed great progress as a developing all-around shooter.
High School:
Matt attended Detroit Catholic Central...competed on their shotgun shooting club for 4 years...One of Michigan’s highest ranked junior sporting clays competitors...Won the junior state title in 2015. Selected once to the NSCA All-American team and 6 times to the NSCA sub gauge All-American team...Born August 20, 1997... Parents are Kevin and Terri.

Recorded a 99 out of 100 in American Skeet at the ACUI Midwest Conference Championship to take Runner-Up event honors...tied teammate Drew Lieske for second place overall...Claimed 12th place individual honors in the overall at the SCTP College Nationals

Started his junior season by winning the American Skeet event at the ACUI Midwest Conference Championship...was a member of the 5-man team that won the Michigan Fall Team Shoot
2014/2015:
Recorded a solid performance at the ACUI National Championship...took Runner Up honors in the International Shootout Bunker Trap event...named to the NRA/ACUI All-American team...also Collegiate American Trap and Doubles Trap Champion at the SCTP National Championship
2013/2014:
Made the most out of his freshmen year with a stellar performance at the ACUI National Championship...Shooting 100x100 in both American Skeet and American Trap...took the High Combined Trap and High Combined American honors...finished 3rd in skeet and Runner-Up in trap after a shoot-off High School: As a member of the Burlington High School Shooting Team, Jordan led one of the nation’s largest Scholastic Clay Target Program teams to 6 Team National Championships in various disciplines...and 3 team High Overall National Championship wins...a 3-time member of the USA Shooting Junior Olympic Team...and was also a member of the Burlington High School Bowling Team...bowling a 300 in one game...Graduated in top 10% of his class...Member of the National Honor Society...Born October 4, 1994. Had a solid performance at the SCTP College Nationals...5th place in the overall with a 565 out of 600...named to the ATA All-American team...inducted into the Eastern States Trapshooting Hall of Fame.
2015/2016:
Shot a near perfect 199x200 to win the American Trap champion title at the SCTP Collegiate Nationals...also placed 2nd in the American Trap event at the ACUI Midwest Conference Championship...A member of the 5-man team that won the Michigan Fall Team Shoot...named to the ATA All-American team.
2014/2015:
Made significant contributions to the team at the ACUI National Championship...shoots 100 straight in both the American Skeet and American Trap events to win the Combined American title...finished ACUI National Championship American Trap Runner Up after a shoot-off...Named captain of the Delaware State American Trap Team...took American Trap singles champion honors at the Empire Grand in New York...ATA Clay Target Championship Men’s 5th.

Drew Lieske/ Davison, Michigan

2016/2017:
Started the fall season off by winning the sporting clays event at the ACUI Midwest Conference Championship...shooting a 97 out of 100...and placed runner-up in the overall...Then went on to win the sporting clays event at the SCTP Collegiate National Championships (Oct.) firing scores of 98 and 92...also placed runner-up in the overall at this event with a cumulative score of 573 out of 600...Had a strong showing at the NSCA National Sporting Clays Championship with a score of 276 out of 300.
2015/2016:
Took the High Overall title for the second consecutive year at the ACUI Midwest Conference Championship...also Skeet Runner-Up... A member of the 5-man team that won the Michigan Fall Team Shoot in September...Sixth overall at the ACUI Collegiate National Championship...led the team in Sporting Clays, Skeet and 5-Stand at Nationals...Named to both the NRA/ACUI All-American team and the NSCA All-American team...Finished the year ranked #5 in the junior FITASC world ranking.
2014/2015:
Joined the Shotgun Team as a true freshman...A versatile sporting clays and all-around shooter...Had an impressive first showing, winning both the High Overall and Sporting Clays events at the ACUI Midwest Conference Championship...was a huge asset in the international skeet event as a finalist in theInternational Shoot-Out...claimed junior champion honors at the U.S. FITASC Grand Prix in Minnesota...Named to both the NRA/ACUI All-American team and the NSCA All-American team.
High School:
The number one ranked sporting clays shooter in the United States his senior year...A four-time team captain at Davison High School...He led the Davison team to state victories in 2013 and 2014...earned 3 individual scholastic state championship titles... Additionally, a past World FITASC Sporting Junior Champion...named to the NSCA All-American team for six consecutive years... and a member of the NSCA USA Team in 2014...Graduated as the valedictorian of his class...Member of the National Honor Society...
