Joseph Manus 1895
A high-level competitor in wrestling, track and football late in the 19th century. He played left guard on the Hillsdale College 1893 MIAA championship football team. A full-blooded Cherokee from the Indian Territory, he returned to Oklahoma where he was elected representative from Cherokee Country to Oklahoma’s first legislature. Became the interpreter for the Cherokee Supreme Court.
