Maryssa Depies wins G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors

The first time Maryssa Depies (Muskegon, MI/Reeths-Puffer) won a collegiate race individually, taking the Hillsdale Invitational crown as a sophomore in 2018, she also received Athlete of the Week honors in women's cross country from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Now, after collecting her second collegiate race victory at Friday's Tiffelberg Invitational, the Hillsdale College senior also has added a second G-MAC women's cross country Athlete of the Week honor to her list of accomplishments, the conference office announced on Monday.

Depies won the 6K race at Seneca Hills Golf Club in 21:28, beating runner-up and teammate Sophia Maeda (Mead, CO/Mead) by over 30 seconds to secure the top spot. The senior led the charge on a banner day for Hillsdale, as the Chargers put eight runners in the top 10 and finished just three points shy of a perfect score with 18 for the race.

The winning time is the second-fastest 6K time of Depies' career, and the fastest 6K time posted by a female runner in the G-MAC to date in 2020. Depies has posted the best time for Hillsdale and finished in the top three in both races so far in 2020, pacing a Hillsdale squad that won the 2019 G-MAC women's cross country title and is looking to repeat this season.

During her time at Hillsdale, Depies has earned three first team all-conference honors, two all-midwest region honors, and competed in three NCAA Division II national championships, with a best finish of 73rd in the nation in 2017.
