Charger Women, Joey Humes Qualify for NCAAs

NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships

The season isn't over yet for senior Joseph Humes and the nationally ranked Hillsdale College women's cross country team.

Humes and the Charger women have qualified for the NCAA Division II championships, to be held Nov. 23 in Sacramento, California. Humes qualified as an individual, while Hillsdale's women's team qualified as a team.

The women's cross country team, ranked 9th in Division II in the last national poll, has qualified as a team for the national championships the past six years in a row. The Chargers, the 2019 G-MAC champions, placed fourth in last weekend's Midwest Regional Championships, finishing one point behind Walsh, who was the third team to earn an automatic qualifying spot at nationals. But Hillsdale ended up making the cut to qualify as a team, due in part to the depth and strength of the region.

This year's Chargers are veterans of competing at the national level, led by senior Arena Lewis and juniors Christina Sawyer and Maryssa Depies

Humes is also no stranger to competing at the highest level in his sport, having qualified for nationals in cross-country and track multiple times throughout his career. He finished fourth overall at last weekend's regional meet, recording the fourth-best 10K time in G-MAC history.
