Women's Cross Country Team Wins Second Event in as Many Weeks

The Hillsdale College women's cross country team won the Tiffelberg Invitational in front of a crowd of family and friends with just 22 points Saturday afternoon in Ohio. They demolished Heidelberg University who took second with 66 points and Tiffin University with 76.

By the halfway mark, senior Arena Lewis established her dominance and finished the race alone with the next closest runner more than 30 seconds behind her. She crossed the line in 22:51.5.

Junior Christina Sawyer paced her teammates along in the first part of the race and went on to take fifth overall in 23:53.1.

Freshman Gwynne Riley kicked off her college career with a ninth-place finish in 24:23.5, with junior teammate Lauren Peterson right behind in 10th in 24:29.2.

Taking 13th overall, sophomore Amber Mango had an awesome race to earn a new personal best time of 24:39, which eclipses her previous record by 30 seconds.

Megan Poole and Natalie Martinson were the next junior-freshman duo to cross the line, which they did nearly together. Poole came in 15th in 24:59.2 and Martinson finished right with her in 25:00.7.

Hillsdale will take a couple weeks off to recover, train, and gear up for the next pair of meets in October.
