Allyssa Van Wienen Wins 6th G-MAC Player of the Week Award

A season of dominance continues for Hillsdale College junior Allyssa Van Wienen.

A middle hitter on the conference-leading volleyball team, Van Wienen was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for an unprecedented sixth time this season. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office Monday afternoon.

As Hillsdale's conference winning streak hit 50 matches over the weekend, Van Wienen continued to be a driving force in the Chargers' grip on first place. In home wins over Walsh and Malone, Van Wienen had a .543 hitting percentage, averaging 4.0 kills per set as the team improved to 21-3 on the season.

In Saturday's four-set win over the Pioneers, she led all players with 16 kills against just one error, hitting .556 for the match. Friday night, Van Wienen and the Chargers untied first place with a win over previouisly-unbeaten in conference play Walsh, where she tallied 12 kills in just 22 attempts.

For the season, Van Wienen has rung up a .443 hitting percentage, best in the G-MAC by 88 percentage points. She is the first volleyball player in school history to be named conference player of the week six times in one season. Ashlee Crowder had won the honor five times in 2011, the last time Hillsdale won the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament.
