Back 2 Back!

New standards are being set week after week by Charger junior middle hitter Allyssa Van Wienen.

For the second week in a row, Van Wienen set a statistical career-high while leading the Hillsdale College volleyball team to significant wins over nationally ranked competition. And for the second week in a row, she was named the G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.

Hillsdale zoomed up to 14th in the AVCA Division II Top 25 poll, and Van Wienen's dominant play has been a big reason for that. Across four matches last weekend - all Charger wins - Van Wienen averaged 4.0 kills per set, had a .456 hitting percentage and averaged one block per set.

That block statistic is somewhat skewed, as Van Wienen turned in a career-best performance against Northwood Friday night. She had 7 solo blocks and 4 block assists, giving her 11 total for the match. That total was tied for the second-most in a match in G-MAC history. Those 7 solo blocks are the most in a match by a Hillsdale College player since the current 25-point rally score format was instituted by the NCAA in the 2008 season.

Van Wienen is 2-for-2 on offensive player of the week awards from the G-MAC to open this 2019 season. She hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
