Chargers Sweep Past Storm

Box Score

It had been a while since the Charger volleyball team played at home during homecoming. The team made the wait worth it with a 3-0 sweep of Lake Erie College Saturday afternoon at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

Hillsdale improved to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC with the sweep.

The Storm are one of the most improved teams in the GLIAC, and played with toughness and resiliency throughout the match. Hillsdale was able to build big leads in the mid-way point of all three sets, but Lake Erie made Hillsdale dig deeper to close out each set. The Chargers were victorious by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-20.

Hillsdale opened the match sizzling on offense, hitting .429 as a team, generating 13 kills compared to just 1 error. In set 3, it was the Charger defense that forced the issue, holding the Storm to a team hitting percentage of -.029 in that final set.

The Chargers deployed another balanced offensive attack, as three players had between 9 and 11 kills to pace the winners. Sophomore Kara Vyletel had 11 kills and a team-high 9 digs for Hillsdale. Junior Jackie Langer added 9 kills and 8 digs, while senior Erin Holsinger dominated the net with 9 kills and 2 solo blocks.

It was a fun match for the Holsinger family, as Erin faced off with younger sister Shannon, a member of Lake Erie's team.

Sophomore setter Taylor Bennett had 33 assists, while senior Kyra Rodi was strong with her block, picking up 2 solo blocks and 5 block assists.

Hillsdale hit .275 as a team for the match compared to .075 for the Storm.
