Marissa Owen Earns GLIAC Post-Graduate Scholarship Award

GLIAC Post-Graduate Scholarship Release

For the second consecutive year, a Hillsdale College Charger has been a recipient of the Pat Riepma GLIAC Post-Graduate Scholarship.

Graduating senior Marissa Owen, a setter on the Charger volleyball team, was one of two recipients of this award. Michigan Tech football player Brett Gervais was the other.

Owen was a superior student-athlete during her career at Hillsdale, being selected as team captain for two years and leading the team to the NCAA Division II Tournament twice. She finished her career with 2,215 assists, sixth-most in school history. She did that despite being part of a 6-2 offensive system in two of her four seasons.

Off the court, Owen was a biology major and never had a cumulative grade point average below 3.8 throughout her career. After she graduates from Hillsdale in May, she will enroll at Michigan State University in veterinary school.

Owen joins former track and cross country All-American Joshua Mirth as winners of this award over the past two years. Seniors in all sports at all GLIAC member institutions are eligible for the award.

The award was named for former Hillsdale College student-athlete and coach, and former Northwood footbal coach Pat Riepma, who passed away last fall after a long bout with cancer.
