Grover, Kopmeyer Named 1st Team All-GLIAC

2012 All-GLIAC Volleyball Release

November 17, 2012 - Although the Hillsdale College volleyball team is not present at this weekend's GLIAC Tournament semifinals and finals, the Chargers still have a strong presence on the conference's postseason all-star teams.

Senior middler hitter Lauren Grover and junior outside hitter Caitlin Kopmeyer each earned spots on First-Team All-GLIAC. The awards were announced between Saturday's semifinal matches, being held at Northwood University.

In addition, freshman Emily Wolfert was named honorable mention All-GLIAC following her outstanding rookie campaign.

Grover's First-Team selection was the first of her incredible career. In 2011, she was named Second-Team All-GLIAC, then went on to be named to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight All-Tournament Team after helping the Chargers to the final four as a junior. In her senior season, Grover has racked up 241 kills, and her 148 total blocks ranks her third in school history in a single season under the current 25-point rally score format. She is a team captain and the senior class president.

Kopmeyer has filled several important roles admirably throughout the season for the Chargers. She has been one of the team's best serve-receive passers as well as a primary option on offense. She leads Hillsdale with 314 kills so far on the season, making her just the fourth player to register 300 kills in a season under the current scoring format (in place since 2008). She also has 315 digs, second on the team, and has an impressive 40 service aces compared to just 18 service errors. Her steady, all-around play has been invaluable to this Charger team in 2012.

Wolfert joined the Hillsdale College program with an impressive resumé and did not disappoint in her debut season. She has recorded 250 kills, has 65 total blocks and 144 digs. She began the season at middle hitter, then switched to the outside hitter position and saw her productivity and efficiency improve dramatically.

Hillsdale is still in strong contention for a spot in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament. The selection show will be webcast on NCAA.com at 10:00 p.m. EST.
