It didn't take Charger senior Abbie Porter long to make her mark on the indoor track season.
In the season opener of her final indoor season, Porter logged a provo time in the 800 was part of a fourth-place 4x400 relay team, and was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.
Already possessing several conference championships in her trophy case, Porter added to that considerable collection Friday night at the GVSU Holiday Open. Porter placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.8, hitting the NCAA provisional mark in her first meet of the season.
Later in the meet, she ran the second leg of the 4x400 relay team, which also took fourth with a time of 3:52.08. That time barely missed NCAA provo status, again, an impressive showing in the season opener.
