Dana Newell Earns First Career G-MAC Weekly Track Honor

In the beginning of her track & field career, Dana Newell saw immediate success, at a conference and national level. Then, injuries hit, potentially derailing her career.

Dana Newell is now back.

Newell, a senior thrower on the Charger women's track team, was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week. This award, the first of her career, was announced and chosen by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

In her first home outdoor meet of the season, Newell, the school's record holder in the hammer throw, took first place in the event with a toss of 54.01 meters. That was more than six meters better than any other thrower at the meet, and was an NCAA Division II provo toss.

That mark was also second-best in the women's hammer throw in G-MAC history.
