The throwers took charge for Hillsdale with two provisional marks and two first place finishes at the Hillsdale Invitational.
Freshman Nikita Maines hit an NCAA Division II provisional mark today in shot put. She took second place overall with a throw of 14.13 meters. Fellow freshman Michaela Burkhauser came in fourth with a mark of 12.99.
In the hammer throw, senior Dana Newell hit a provisional mark as well en route to a first place finish. She threw for 54.01 meters, beating the rest of the competition by more than six meters.
And in discus, Burkhauser took first by more than two meters with a throw of 44.76, which is a new personal record for her.
In javelin, freshman Emma Shea neared her personal best with a throw of 31.75 meters to take third out of 24 competitors.
Junior Kathryn Bassette took second place in pole vault, clearing 3.50 meters. Freshman Alexie Day earned a second place finish as well in high jump with a mark of 1.62 meters.
On the track, junior Kate Vanderstelt tried out the 3,000 meter steeple chase for the first time. She came in first place with a time of 11:50.96.
Freshman Claire McNally tried out a new event as well today. She took fifth place in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:50.8. Fellow freshman Sophia Maeda came in right behind her in 4:51.92. Sophomore Megan Poole and junior Addison Rauch came in seventh and eighth, respectively.
Sophomore Calli Townsend won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:05.47.
In the 400 meter dash, freshmen Alanna O'Leary and Melanie Boehm took second and fourth respectively. O'Leary came across in 58.64 seconds, and Boehm finished in 59.97. They also ran the 200 meter dash together. O'Leary took fifth in 26.05, and Boehm took 10th in 27.12.
