Small Group of Charger Track Athletes Open Outdoor Season in Miami

Several Chargers traveled to Miami, Florida over spring break to compete in the Miami Hurricane Invitational.

Hillsdale had a strong showing in the throwing events. Freshman Michaela Burkhauser had her college debut in discus. She placed seventh out of 19 with a distance of 41.99 meters. She had her first try at the hammer throw as well, taking 13th with 40.84 meters.

Freshman Emma Shea joined Burkhauser for her first go at the hammer throw. She placed 17th with 34.41 meters. Shea threw javelin as well. She finished in 17th place with 25.34 meters.

Freshman Nikita Maines threw 13.23 meters in the shot put to take seventh.

On the men's side, Hillsdale had three throwers in the hammer. Freshman Chris Huffman led the way taking sixth with a distance of 47.33. Freshmen Steve Weideman and Kai Panethiere took 11th and 14th, respectively. Weideman three for 42.5 meters and Panethiere three 39.89 meters.

Weideman and Panethiere threw the javelin as well. Weideman took 13th with 38.14 meters and Pantheire came in 18th with 30.31 meters.

Hillsdale had three hurdlers on the track. First off was freshman John Baldwin in the 100m hurdles. He took fourth in 14.49 seconds which is an NCAA Division II provisional qualfying time!

In the 400 hurdles freshman Melanie Boehm took 10th in 1:05.34 and freshman Kevin Curby finished in 15th with 1:00.59.
