GVSU Big Meet - Saturday Results

The Hillsdale College women's track team found plenty of success in Allendale, Michigan, at Grand Valley's Big Meet on Friday and Saturday.

Hillsdale had great depth in the 5000m run. Leading the way for the distance crew was junior Arena Lewis, who came in 25th overall out 146 athletes. Her time of 17:21.51 is an NCAA Division II provisional mark. Sophomore Christina Sawyer and freshman Sophia Maeda were up next, finishing 36th and 39th, respectively. Sawyer finished in 17:48.20 and Maeda finished in 17:51.85.

Sophomore Lauren Peterson has found her stride in the longer distance events lately, as she set a new personal record in the 5k with a time of 18:14.06. And junior Addison Rauch was right behind her in 18:19.83.

In the sprints, freshmen Kajsa Johansson competed in the 200m dash. She finished in 25.44 to take 17th out of 42 runners.

Freshman thrower Nikita Maines has stayed consistent in shot put. She threw for another provisional mark of 14.04 meters to take fourth.

Sophomore Abbie Porter set a new personal record for the indoor 800m run with a time of 2:11.23. She well-surpassed the provisional mark of 2:14.

Senior Ally Eads set a new personal best in the mile as well. She ran a great race to finish in 4:52.10, achieving a provisional mark.

Eads and Porter teamed up with sophomore Maryssa Depies and freshman Melanie Boehm to run the distance medley relay on Saturday. The relay team finished in 11:58.93, which is over 10 seconds faster than its last attempt.

On Saturday freshman Alanna O'Leary saw two new personal bests. In the 200m dash she finished in 26.47 seconds and in the 400m dash she finished in 1:00.45.

Freshman Claire McNally had a 19-second improvement in the 3000m run. Her new personal best of 10:17.97 earned her 16th out of 77 runners. Freshman teammate Amber Mango also saw a new personal best in the mile. She finished 19th out of 79 with a time of 5:13.51.

High jumper Paige VanderWall, an All-American volleyball player, competed in her first meet on Saturday. She is off to a great start, jumping 1.64 meters to take fifth.

The Chargers will prepare for the G-MAC Championships in a couple of weeks with the Hillsdale Tune Up on Feb. 16 in the Biermann Center.
