The Charger women took on the Ball State Challenge this weekend, enjoying the sunshine and spring weather as they performed in central Indiana.
Sprinters Kajsa Johannson, Ashlee Moran, and Zalonya Eby represented the Chargers early in the day. Freshman Johannson raced a personal best in the 100 meters, taking ninth with 12.09 seconds, while senior Moran took eleventh with 12.11 seconds. Freshman Eby took eighth in the 200 meters, running 24. 59 seconds.
Mid-distance also brought their competitive game to the track. Sophomore Abbie Porter won the 800-meter race with her usual ease, running 2:16.06. Senior Hannah McIntyre led Hillsdale's 1500 meter runners with a second place finish (4:39.18), followed by Allysen Eads in fourth (4:45.03) and Arena Lewis in sixth (4:47.28).
The hurdling freshman Carmen Botha had a stellar weekend, taking eleventh in the 100 hurdles with a personal best of 14.79 seconds, and third in the 400 hurdles with 1:03.71.
Charger relays made improvements this weekend as well. The 4x100 meter relay, consisting of seniors Fiona Shea and Ashlee Moran and freshmen Kajsa Johannson and Zalonya Eby, took fourth with a time of 47.14 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay (Ashlee Moran, Lorina Clemence, Abbie Porter, and Carmen Botha) took second with a time of 3:51.36.
In the field events, the Hillsdale jumpers were competitive in their fields. Senior Alexandra Whitford and sophomore Kathryn Bassette took first (3.79 meters) and third (3.49 meters), respectively, in the pole vault. Senior Chloe Ohlgren leaped for third in the long jump (5.52 meters) and fifth in the triple jump (10.93 meters). Freshman Maria Luea also jumped well, taking sixth in long jump with 5.42 meters.
Finally, senior legacy captain Rachael Tolsma took fourth in the shot put (13.62 meters) and second in the hammer throw (51.38 meters).
