Molly Oren Wins Second GLIAC Commissioner's Award

Molly Oren Wins Second GLIAC Commissioner's Award

Spring 2017 GLIAC Commissioner's Award Winners

As Hillsdale College exits the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, it does so with two of its very best receiving conference honors.

Senior Molly Oren, along with senior Bekah Kastning, were recipients of the GLIAC Commissioner's Award for the Spring 2017 season. This is the second time Oren has received this honor, putting her in the company of some of Hillsdale's best athletes over the past 20 years: Clara Leutheuser, Emily Oren, Kyle Cooper and Megan Fogt.

Molly Oren completed one of the great distance running careers in Charger history with her eighth All-American honor at last month's NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bradenton, Florida. She placed sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase, competing against a field that was as good as has ever been seen at the Division II level.

Oren was a GLIAC champion in the steeplechase during outdoor season, and during the 2017 indoor season, won the GLIAC championship in the 3000 meter run. As a junior, she was a part of the NCAA champion distance medley relay team along with former GLIAC Commissioner's Award winners Emily Oren and Corinne Zehner.

Off the track, Oren completed her undergraduate work with a 3.8 overall grade point average, majoring in marketing management. She was named to the GLIAC Academic Excellence Team in every season she was eligible, and was a recipient of the rare President's Scholar Athlete Award, a Hillsdale College-based honor going to upperclassmen who have maintained an overall GPA of 3.8 or higher.
