Six different members of the Hillsdale College women's track team brought home All-American trophies after competing at the 2017 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama this weekend.
Junior Hannah McIntyre earned her seventh career All-American honor on the event's opening night Thursday, taking sixth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:44. Between indoor and outdoor track and cross country, McIntyre has earned at least one All-American honor in each national event she's competed in during her Charger career.
As much of a veteran to the national stage as McIntyre was, senior Alexandra Whitford was a newcomers to an NCAA meet, and she made the most of her opportunity. She finished in a three-way tie for eighth place in the pole vault, clearing 3.77 meters. It was the first All-American honor for Whitford, who has persevered through numerous injuries in her career, and put together her best season in 2016-17.
The distance medley relay team has established itself as one of the nation's best in recent years, and with a new group taking the track this year, the team performed at a high level all the same.
The foursome of Allysen Eads, Hannah Watts, Molly Oren and Allison Duber took seventh place in the event, finishing with a time of 11:34.08, good for All-American recognition. It was the first career All-American honor for Eads, one of the team's talented young runners, and the seventh for Oren.
As a team, Hillsdale finished with 5.3 points.
Throwers Rachael Tolsma and Dana Newell each competed in the weight throw and both finished outside the top 10. Newell was 15th with a mark of 17.93 meters, while Tolsma was 17th with a mark of 17.71 meters.
