Dana Newell has competed on the national stage at the Division II level. Saturday, she lined up against Division I competition in a Big Ten venue, and came out a winner.

Newell won the weight throw event with a mark of 17.94 meters for the Hillsdale College women's track team, who competed at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational at the University of Michigan Saturday afternoon. She added a sixth-place finish in the shot put to her big day.

Victoria Wichman had a strong day on the track in her two events. She was third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.75 seconds. She also ran the second leg of the 4x400 relay team, who took third with a 3:59.07. She was joined in the relay by Allison Duber, Lorina Clemence and birthday girl Ashlee Moran.

Senior Alexandra Whitford cleared 3.7 meters in the pole vault and finished fourth at the meet. Senior Sarah Benson took sixth in the long jump, clearing 5.41 meters.

UP NEXT: Hillsdale is off next weekend before returning to action at the Mike Lints Alumni Open at Grand Valley State University Jan. 28.
