The first home meet of the indoor season was a chance for the Hillsdale College women's track team to get back in the swing of things.

The Chargers rested their distance runners, but got plenty of solid performances from field event athletes and sprinters at the Hillsdale Winter Opener, held Saturday afternoon at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.

Hillsdale finished third among the eight competing teams with 105.5 points. Wayne State took first with 133, followed by Siena Heights, who had 121.

The throwing combo of Dana Newell and Rachael Tolsma each earned points in their events for the Chargers, as they went 1-2 respectively in the weight throw, both attaining NCAA provo marks. Newell won the weight throw with a toss of 17.88 meters, while Tolsma wasn't far behind at 17.35.

They also finished fourth and fifth in the shot put event.

Senior Alexandra Whitford notched an NCAA provo mark in the pole vault, finishing third with a height of 3.55 meters.

The 4x400 relay team of Fiona Shea, Ashlee Moran, Victoria Wichman and Hannah Watts flew to a first place with a time of 3:59.93. Watts picked up additional points for the Chargers by placing third in the 400, just missing the one-minute mark. Wichman took second in the 200 with a time of 25.75 seconds.
