Oren Named National Athlete of the Week by USTFCCCA

USTFCCCA National Athletes of the Week release

National recognition might not be anything new for Hillsdale College senior Emily Oren, but she got some more Tuesday afternoon anyway.

Oren, a distance runner on the No. 4-ranked Charger women's track team, was named the Division II National Female Track Athlete of the Week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

She won the award after another dominating performance at last week's 2016 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at Ferris State University. Thursday, she shattered the GLIAC and NCAA Division II records in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:50.54, a time that's good enough to qualify her for the Olympic trials.

Friday, Oren followed up that performance with a 14-second victory in the 5000 meter run, winning with a time of 16:48. Oren was named the GLIAC's Most Outstanding Female Running Athlete of the Meet after her two wins.

She is now preparing to run in her final races as a college athlete, the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for May 26-28 in Bradenton, Florida. where she will attempt to add to her total of seven track national championships in her once-in-a-lifetime career.
