Zehner Breaks Own School Hurdles Record in the Hillsdale Tune Up

Sophomore Corinne Zehner wrote herself into the record books twice Saturday afternoon.

Zehner broke her own school record in the 60 meter hurdles, and later led teammates Allison Duber, Emily Guy and Dani Gagne on a record-breaking performance in the 4x400 relay, finally catching a record that group had been building to for several weeks.

Zehner's time of 8.91 in the 60 hurdles was good for second place at the meet. The 4x400 relat team blazed its way to a second-place finish with a time of 3:51.99.

The records fell during the Hillsdale Tune Up, the second home meet in three weeks for the Charger women's track team, and the last chance for the team to compete before next weekend's GLIAC Indoor championships.

In pole vault, freshman Alexanda Whitford took first and met a NCAA provisioanal mark with a 3.81 meter vault. Junior Amy Kerst crossed the tape first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.81, a provisional qualifying time. Sophomore Shena Albaugh finished third in the same event with another provisional time of 2:17.46. In the 3000 meter run, freshman Molly Oren won the event with a time of 10:44.55.

In long jump, freshman Sarah Benson took second with a 5.46 meter leap. With a 1.58 meter jump, freshman Dana Newell took sixth in the high jump. In the weight throw, senior, Grace Leutheuser met a provisional mark with at 16.00 meter throw, taking seventh in the event. Newell took tenth with a 15.13 meter throw. Freshman Madison Estell took fifth in the triple jump, leaping 10.77 meters. In the 3000 meter run, junior Rachel Warner took sixth with a time of 11:25.48 and freshman Meredith Didier finished 10thwith 11:52.46.

The GLIAC indoor championships, hosted by Hillsdale College, will start Saturday, March 1 and continue into Sunday.
