Chargers wrap up fall season with 7-0 sweep of Davenport

The Hillsdale College women's tennis team ended the Fall portion of their schedule on a high note, winning every set in all six singles and three doubles matches in a 7-0 sweep of host Davenport on Saturday.

Senior captain Sarah Hackman led the way for the Chargers with a 6-3, 6-0 sweep of Davenport's Willemien Coetzee at No. 1 singles, and teamed with freshman Libby McGivern for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles as well. 

McGivern also was a 6-1, 6-4 winner for the Chargers at No. 3 singles over the Panthers' Danica Malan, and Hillsdale's No. 2 singles player, Canela Luna, took a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Kumiko Yamaguchi as well.

Luna teamed with senior Sophia Spinazze for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles for the Chargers, and Spinazze beat Davenport's Sophie Jackson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles as well.

Charger sophomore Helana Formentin won a 6-2, 6-2 match at No. 5 singles over Louise Hosking of Davenport, and Hillsdale junior Ellie Chawner won 6-0, 6-1 over Kailyn Skogmo of Davenport as well.

Chawner also paired with sophomore Julia Wagner in a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles that gave the Chargers a clean sweep of the doubles portion.

Hillsdale, now 2-1 on the year, will be off for the winter. The Chargers next pick up on Feb. 6 with a match at home against Purdue Northwest to kick off the spring caledar.
