Matthews Named G-MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

"Undefeated on the season" is an accurate phrase to apply to both the Hillsdale College women's tennis team, and senior Kamryn Matthews.

The team couldn't have that distinction be accurate without the fine play of the player, and as a result, Matthews was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week Wednesday morning. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office. This is the first time this season and second time in her career Matthews has received this honor.

Matthews won at both singles and doubles in Hillsdale's 4-3 win over Michigan Tech on Sunday in a key regional victory. MTU was one of the top teams in the GLIAC in the fall, winning nine of 12 matches before its loss to the Chargers. Matthews' straight sets victory in singles was a key part of the Charger win, after it had lost the doubles point to the Huskies. However, Matthews won her doubles match, moving her to 10-0 individually on the season.

Hillsdale is 5-0 so far this season and is seeking its third straight G-MAC Women's Tennis championship. Matthews is the team's current career wins leader, and is originally from Midland, Michigan.
