The losing team in Sunday's big game wouldn't have had as good of a day as the Hillsdale College women's tennis team.

Kicking off the championship season portion of its schedule, the Chargers returned to action and blanked Saginaw Valley State 7-0 at the Margot V. Biermann Center. Hillsdale is now 2-0 on the season.

The Chargers put together a clean sweep in their second dual match of the season and their first in its official campaign. Veteran players were at the forefront of the team's home win.

While vets like Kamryn Matthews, Katie Bell and Hannah Cimpeanu played at their usual high level, a pair of newcomers chipped in to help Hillsdale sweep doubles play. Ellie Chawner teamed up with Bell for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while freshman Canela Luna was joined by Matthews at No. 3 doubles, and the two earned a 6-0 win.

Matthews won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles while Bell also posted a straight sets win at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

Cimpeanu opened her junior season with a comeback win at No. 1 singles, winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Sarah Hackman won a close match at No. 2 singles while Luna and Sophia Spinazze each cruised to wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
