There's no such thing as a "perfect game" in tennis, but the Hillsdale College women's tennis team played close to perfect as a unit Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers got strong performances from up and down the lineup in a 9-0 shutout of Ashland University in a non-conference matchup at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center. The win improves the team to 4-4 on the season.

After playing a viciously tough schedule in Florida, the team was happy to come back to its home court and put together a terrific performances.

The three doubles teams won their matches by a combined score of 24-5, the widest combined margin of the season. Junior Halle Hyman and freshman Hannah Cimpeanu breezed to an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles to highlight the group.

Katie Bell and Corinne Prost pulled out an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Kamryn Matthews and junior Madeline Bissett picked up an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

All six of the Chargers' singles players won their matches in straight sets, with no Ashland player winning more than three games in any set.

Bell got back into the win column with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Hyman was a 6-1, 6-2 victor at No. 2 singles, with Prost winning her match by that exact same score at No. 3 singles.

Matthews was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles, while Bissett continued her strong play of late with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Junior Julia Formentin recorded the most lopsided win of her career, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
