A bright spot in the first loss of the season for the Hillsdale College women's tennis team continues to be its youngest players.
The Chargers lost a 6-3 decision to Tiffin University Saturday afternoon in Ohio, dropping them to 2-1 on the season. However, the team's two freshmen, Kamryn Matthews and Katie Bell, continued very successful starts to their collegiate careers.
Bell won a marathon match at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8, improving to 3-0 in singles matches in her young career. Bell and Matthews kept up their winning doubles partnership by winning their match at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Matthews won her third straight singles match to start her career, in decisive fashion, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.
The most hitly contested doubles match came in the No. 3 flight, with sophomores Julia Formentin and Madeline Bissett hanging tough, but falling by a 9-7 score.
