Relay Team Breaks Pool Record as Charger Swimmers Keep Winning

Results

Saturday afternoon the Hillsdale College swimming team earned two more wins and made some history in the process.

The team traveled to Romeoville Illinois for a tri meet with Lewis University and Findlay University. Hillsdale won 110–95 against Findlay and 119.5–85.5 against Lewis. The team's success was due to the Chargers' depth, and every point mattered.

The meet came down to the last event, the 200 freestyle relay, and the A-relay of Katherine Heeres, Anika Fassett, Emma Rao, and Marie Taylor not only won, but broke the Lewis University pool record by .2 seconds for a new record of 1:39.22.

Freshmen distance swimmers scored critical points for the Chargers. In the 1000, freshman Madison Pyhel took first (10:57.01), and freshman Sarah Clark took fourth (11:04.78). In the 500, freshman Leah Tunney took first (5:10.85), and Pyhel second (5:19.69).

Tunney again won the 200 freestyle (1:56.69), and junior Katherine Heeres took fourth (2:00.85).

Freshman Marie Taylor had strong performances in all of her events. She took second in the 50 freestyle (24.82), and second in the 100 freestyle (54.04). In both events she beat the Findlay swimmers. She was also the anchor for the winning 200 freestyle relay.

Charger butterfliers earned three top finishes with Freshman Anika Fassett finishing second (59.90), sophomore Anna Clark third (1:00.61), and senior Catherine Voisin fifth (1:00.94).

In the 100 breaststroke, Senior Victoria Addis finished third (1:10.47), sophomore Maddie Breay fifth (1:11.84), and sophomore Taylor Boyle sixth (1:12.16). Against Findlay, Addis, Breay, and Boyle finished second, third, and fourth.

Other top swims included Pyhel taking third in the 200 IM (2:16.75), and senior Danielle Snell fifth (2:17.85). Heeres took third in the 100 backstroke (1:00.67), and senior Bailey Bickerstaff fifth (1:01.95).
