Freshman Katherine Heeres has already broken school records and won events in her first year with the Hillsdale College swimming program. Now, she's upped her award-winning game to the conference level.
Heeres was named the Great Midwest Athlete of the Week Tuesday afternoon. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.
The school record-holder in the 100 back, Heeres had a terrific day Saturday to help the Chargers to wins over DePaw and Olivet. She won the 200 free in 1:59.02, the 100 back in 1:01.57 and the 100 IM in 1:02.89. She also helped the 400 free relay team to a second-place finish at the tri-meet.
The Zeeland, Michigan native will join her teammates in a meet versus Saginaw Valley State University Saturday in University Center, Michigan.
