A 12-point scoring deficit in the second quarter proved to be a big difference in a 63-41 loss suffered by the Hillsdale College women's basketball team Tuesday night in Evansville against the University of Southern Indiana.

Hillsdale drops to 2-5 with the loss.

The teams played to a first-quarter draw at 13 apiece, a good road start for the Chargers. But things went downhill from there, when USI outscored Hillsdale 17-5 in the second quarter to take a 12-point lead at halftime.

The Chargers cut two points off that deficit in the third quarter, but the Screaming Eagles finished the game strong, outscoring Hillsdale 24-11 in the fourth quarter.

Hillsdale shot 23.5 percent from the floor in the game and turned the ball over 22 times compared to 12 for USI.

Freshman Sydney Mills led Hillsdale in scoring with 11 points off the bench, making all six of her free throws. Senior Julia Wacker pulled down a team-high 11 boards, while sophomore Lauren Daffenberg had 8 points and 4 rebounds.
