The Charger women's basketball team showed remarkable improvement in nearly every area from this weekend's first game to its second, and came up with its first win of the season Sunday afternoon.

Hillsdale rallied from a halftime deficit to top Northwood University 80-71 at the Dawn Tibbetts Potter Anrea. The Chargers are 1-1 ahead of next weekend's trip north to face two more GLIAC foes.

A 12-0 run early in the fourth quarter changed the complexion of the game as Hillsdale took control and never lost it. The Timberwolves converted a 3-point play on the first possession of the fourth quarter to take a 60-57 lead. But Hillsdale battled back, scoring the next dozen points to jump out in front 69-60. Hillsdale moved the ball well on offense, knocked some tough shots down and played with renewed energy and confidence during that stretch.

Down the stretch, Hillsdale also played and executed responsibly, staying away from quick turnovers and knocking down its free throws. The Chargers were 6-for-8 from the line in the game's waning seconds, and held Northwood down, preventing any late comeback. A Lauren Daffenberg 3-pointer with 1:35 to go increased the Charger lead to seven, a bakcbreaking shot.

Daffenberg led a balanced Hillsdale effort with 18 points, going 7-for-14 from the field, knocking down two 3-point shots.

Sophomore Grace Touchette had 14 points and 7 rebounds, while senior Sydney Anderson had 13, going 8-for-9 from the free throw line.

The team's freshman played a key role in this victory. Maverick Delp logged some good minutes off the bench, finishing with 8 points and 2 rebounds while playing disruptive defense. Kennedy Pratt also scored 8 off the bench while picking up 6 rebounds. Sydney Mills played with confidence and a comfort level beyond her years, adding 9 points and 3 rebounds in 20 minutes of action.

Hillsdale outrebounded Northwood 46-30, controlling the boards throughout the game.
