Oilers Hold Off Chargers, 69-64

A promising start to the fourth quarter ended in opposite fashion for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team.

The Chargers dropped a frustrating game to the University of Findlay, 69-64, on a snowy Saturday afternoon in Findlay's Croy Gymnasium. The loss drops Hillsdale to 8-9 overall and 6-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Findlay held Hillsdale to 10 points in the third quarter, and increased a two-point halftime lead to as many as nine, ultimately leading 57-49 heading into the fourth quarter. But the Chargers clamped down on Findlay to open the fourth, going on a 12-3 run to lead 61-60 around halfway through the final quarter. But the Chargers would only score three more points the rest of the way, as the Oilers clawed their way back into the lead late in the contest.

The Chargers shot 5-for-15 from the field in the fourth quarter, while Findlay did a good job of guarding Hillsdale without fouling. The Chargers shot 3-for-5 from the free throw line as a team in the game, with all of those makes and attempts coming in the fourth quarter.

Senior forward Makenna ott played a strong game for the Chargers, scoring 17 points while hauling in 8 rebounds on 8-for-11 shooting from the field. Senior Brittany Gray added 15 points. Senior guard Allie Dewire scored 12 points with 3 steals and sophomore guard Jaycie Burger handed out 5 assists.
