Panthers Pull Away From Chargers in 2nd Half

The Hillsdale College women's basketball team got outscored 47-27 in the second half of a 76-65 home loss to the Ohio Dominican University Panthers Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops Hillsdale to 8-8 overall and 6-4 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

The Chargers were in rhythm and playing well through the first half. The team opened the game shooting 53 percent from the floor in the first quarter, and went into halftime with a 38-29 lead. The Chargers limited ODU to just four made field goals in the second quarter while getting good balance on offense.

But the Panthers dug in and slowly took back momentum through the third quarter when it held a 19-12 scoring advantage to make it a 50-48 Hillsdale lead going into the fourth. ODU went on to outscore Hillsdale 28-15 in the fourth quarter to pull away. 

Hillsdale shot 4-for-17 as a team in the fourth quarter compared to 8-for-15 for ODU. The Panthers also drained five 3-point field goals in the fourth quarter alone, half of its entire total for the game. The Chargers finished the game shooting 36.5 percent from the floor and 9-for-24 on 3-point shots.

Senior Brittany Gray led Hillsdale in scoring with 18 points, making four 3-point shots and shooting a solid 7-for-13 overall. Senior forward Makenna Ott had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocked shots in 38 minutes on the court. Senior guard Allie Dewire added 8 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists in the game for Hillsdale.
