Walsh Pulls Away in 2nd Half in Win Over Hillsdale

A 17-5 scoring deficit in the third quarter proved to be costly for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team, who fell to Walsh University 83-56 Saturday afternoon at the Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

The Chargers now stand at 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Walsh held Hillsdale to 33 percent shooting for the game (21-for-64), as the Chargers made 8 of their 32 attempts from 3-point land. Walsh made 60 percent of its shot in that third quarter when it increased its halftime lead from 10 to 22 points. 

Three Chargers had solid offensive games, led by a team-high 21 from senior forward Brittany Gray. Senior guard Allie Dewire scored 16 points and senior Makenna Ott added 13 points. Those three players combined for 50 of Hillsdale's 56 points in the contest.

Hillsdale did a good job in grabbing 18 offensive rebounds, but it turned the ball over four more times than the Cavaliers did (17-13), and Walsh held a 15-6 scoring advantage from the free throw line.

Gray was very active throughout her 32 minutes on the floor, getting three steals and five rebounds, four on the offensive end. Ott led the team with seven boards and Grace Touchette came off the bench to hand out three assists.
