Flyers Take Down Chargers 77-55

Box Score

The Hillsdale College women's basketball team fell for the second time in two days, losing a regional matchup with #25 Lewis University 77-55 Sunday afternoon. The Chargers are 0-2 and are next in action Monday, Nov. 19 versus Ferris State.

The Chargers struggled to defend the Flyers and finish on their own end of the court. Nearly ten minutes passed during the first two quarters without a Hillsdale basket, leading to a 19-0 scoring run for the Flyers. Momentum shifted after freshman guard Lauren Daffenberg drained a three to bring the score to 25-8. The Chargers were held to just 16 first-half points, but were able to generate more effective offense through the second half.

Senior forward Makenna Ott came alive in the fourth quarter with four layups and three defensive rebounds among her team-high 12 points. She stands just two points shy of joining the 1,000-point club.

Hillsdale shot 33 percent to Lewis' 45 percent shooting from the field in the game.

Ott led the Chargers with 12 points, three assists and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Amaka Chikwe scored nine points and added two rebounds. Sophomore guard Jaycie Burger contributed eight points and one assist as well.

Senior guard Allie Dewire was limited to two minutes of play due to an injury and did not return.
