Box Score

The Chargers fell in a close game against the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds, 69-67 in the 2018-19 season opener Saturday afternoon at the Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena. Hillsdale is 0-1 on the season.

The Greyhounds hit two free throws with 2.9 seconds left in the game to create the difference in the final score. The Chargers attempted a driving layup on the final possession, but were thwarted by a tough and physical UIndy defense.

Ott led the Chargers in scoring with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Nine of her points came in the back-and-forth fourth quarter.

The tied score didn't last for long as Indianapolis held a six-point lead with just over seven minutes left in the game, but after a three by freshman guard Grace Touchette, momentum shifted and the Chargers began their comeback.

The game was tied at 60 with just three minutes left to go. After back-and-forth baskets by both teams, Hillsdale still trailed 65-67 with 17 seconds left. Senior guard Allie Dewire was fouled. She had gone 5-5 in free throws and the pressure was on to maintain her perfect percentage. She drained both shots, tying the game at 67.

But with a Hillsdale foul with three seconds left in the game, Indianapolis took the lead after two made free throws. The Chargers were unable to come back.

The freshman guard duo Lauren Daffenberg and Touchette combined for 15 of Hillsdale's points. Daffenberg made three three-pointers in a row in the first quarter. Dewire added 15 points as well, 7 of which came from free throws. Burger contributed five points, three steals, and three assists as well.
