Northwood Races Past Hillsdale

Box Score

The Hillsdale College women's basketball team got off to one of its better starts in Thursday night's game at Northwood University. Unfortunately for the Chargers, that start didn't last.

Led by a big opening to the game by junior guard Morgan Blair, Hillsdale jumped out to a 24-12 lead early in the second quarter. But the host Timberwolves finished that quarter on a 28-8 run and went on to defeat the Chargers 92-64 in Midland.

The loss drops Hillsdale to 9-11 overall and 6-10 in the GLIAC.

Blair scored 12 of her game-high 14 points through the game's first 13 minutes, playing a big part in the team's early advantage. But the offense moved away from her, and Northwood's offense started clicking on all cylinders.

The Timberwolves scored 31 in the second quarter and 28 more in the third to extend the lead beyond the Chargers' reach.

Northwood shot 55 percent from the field for the game. The Chargers shot better than 50 percent from the field in the first half themselves, but saw their percentage plummet to 40 by the game's end. Hillsdale also shot just 6-for-28 from 3-point territory.

Blair was 6-for-10 from the field and also had 4 assists. Senior Kayla Geffert scored 12, while sophomore Allie Dittmer scored 10. They shared rebounding lead honors for the team with 5 apiece.

UP NEXT: Hillsdale travels back to the Upper Peninsula for a 1:00 Saturday game against Lake Superior State.
